Three generations of Fields have made the business what it is today…
Richard Field, known as Dick, started RJ Field and Son in 1947. He built an established and well-respected business in Hereford before passing the reins on to his son, Russell Field. Under the guidance of Russell the business continued to grow from strength to strength and in 1986 Martyn, Russell’s son and Dick’s grandson joined the family firm, before taking over in 2001 on his father’s retirement.
“RJ Field & son really is a family business”, says Martyn, the current owner. “My Grandfather started in 1947 with just a concrete mixer, a wheel barrow and a shovel and was joined, before long by my father. He and I then worked alongside each other for nearly 20 years before he retired and now my wife Elaine works with me, running the office and manning the phones. I’m proud to be able to say that each generation has built on the growing reputation of his successor to create a building services company that can not only handle any size of job, but is truly thriving”.
